Cycle Training (Adults & Children)

Cycling is a great way to get around, get some exercise, and reduce the amount of time spent stuck in a car.  Cycle training can help you gain the confidence and skills you need to get back on two wheels.

Bikeability is cycling proficiency for the 21st century, conducted by National Standard trainers.

Sessions are currently free and take place at Kings Park Cycle Centre. Courses take place most Saturdays and during most school holidays, from March to October.  Each course takes two mornings to complete.  Instructors are all fully qualified to the national standard and are DBS checked. (Some schools also host Bikeability training, so you could ask your child's school if they will be offering one of the courses in the future.)

Bikeability is cycling proficiency for the 21st century, conducted by National Standard trainers.

Our level 1 & 2 courses are aimed at children in school years 5, 6 and 7 and take 8 hours to complete.

The national standard outcomes fall into three levels:

  • Level 1 - offers bike handling skills in a controlled environment away from roads.
  • Level 2 - is taught on road and teaches you to cycle planned routes on minor roads offering real cycling experience.
  • Level 3 - will ensure cyclists are able to manage all traffic conditions.

Part of the course takes place on local roads therefore children will already need to be able to ride their bike confidently without wobbling. Children's bikes must be in good roadworthy condition. The Borough of Poole recommend a well fitted helmet and provide yellow waistcoats to trainees.

On completion of the course outcomes children will receive a Bikeability certificate and badge.

Schools can contact the Bikeability team on 01202 262000 or email to request a course.
